Because you are a human being you experience stress and emotions, regardless of whether you are a director, manager or an agent. This seemingly trivial statement is the key to understanding what we experience when we decide to take part in the recruitment process. Changing work belongs to one of the most stressful events in our lives, so it's good to think about it before undertaking this large dose of adrenaline.
Remember that your employer is a person who takes care of his/hers organization and its representation. The most committed error is a sentiment that we share towards our employer. We think that we have some obligations. We owe loyalty and "fair play". Yes, true, "but" ... We think so because we establish emotional relationship with our work environment. We create a bond and common identify with our employers. Of course, that relationship is good and I do not recommend you to avoid it. I urge you however to maintain common sense and stay aware that on the other side there's an individual who represents the interests of a company. And if it came to him/her to reduce costs and achieve a profit by reducing your position, they would do so without hesitation.
If you take up this difficult decision to leave, then be certain not to back away from it, just because they offered a package with a salary, new Jaguar, and 50% pay rise, or maybe a piano lesson for you children. It's the employers struggle for a good employee, but also before incurring additional costs. After all, finding and recruiting a new employee in your position is related to considerable costs.
If, after meeting with the Consultant, then his client, and your potential future employer, you have the feeling that chosen vacancy isn't the one, just say so. Do not allow yourself to be manipulated. Each party involved in the process has their own interest. Try to listen to self intuition because there's nothing worse then a loss of reputation and credibility amongst your business partners. Your withdrawal from the recruitment process at its very end, almost after signing a new contract, demonstrates your immaturity and may be very harmful. Little experienced employees can use this method as a form of manipulation, extortion of more favourable conditions of employment. If you have doubts and hesitations, simply ask the Consultant for additional information, or a meeting. Talk about it, then review all pros and cons and good luck! |
